European Congresses of Protistology (ECOP)
The European Congresses of Protistology (ECOP) are the most visible activities of FEPS.
As one of the largest congresses in Europe dealing with all aspects of protists biology (from molecular to ecological topics) and featuring up to approx. 400 attendees, the ECOP Congresses provide a platform for international scientific exchange and showcase the newest scientific achievements in the many and diverse fields of protistology. The Congress comprises plenary lectures presented by outstanding scientists, a range of subject-specific symposia to provide the latest updates in different areas of protists research, extensive poster communications, and other activities (e.g. arts and science). The Congress is held each four years in countries that have a Constituent Society of FEPS.
Some ECOP congresses were held jointly with the European Conference on Ciliate Biology.
VII ECOP – A JOINT MEETING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ISOP
The 2015 VII ECOP Congress will be held in Seville (Spain) early September 2015 (September 5th-10th), hosted by the Specialized Group of Protistology (Grupo Especializado de Protistología, GEP) of the Spanish Society of Microbiology (SEM). The congress venues will be at the Hotel-Conference Center Silken Al-Andalus Palace and the Campus “Av. Reina Mercedes” of the University of Seville.
The VII ECOP congress will be organized for the first time as a joint meeting in partnership with The International Society of Protistologists (ISOP). This will be a very special occasion, so we cordially invite you to participate in this big event for protistologists worldwide. In this regard we must thank the initial contacts with ISOP conducted by Thomas Weisse during the last ISOP Congress held in Vancouver. After a first round of initial contacts, negotiations have been established with ISOP for organizing this joint conference.
Updated information on this joint meeting will be uploaded at due time to the renovated webpage of FEPS, and announcements will be published in European Journal of Protistology and other protistological and generalists journals.
A preliminary version of logo for the joint ECOP-ISOP meeting, prepared by Juan Carlos Gutiérrez, in which various figures of protists are integrated among the stars of the European flag, is presented.
A Local Organizing Committee comprising a number of members of GEP and other Spanish protistologists has been set up. Current President of GEP is Prof. Dr. Ana Martín, Universidad Complutense de Madrid (email@example.com), and Dr. Aurelio Serrano, current General Secretary of FEPS, is a member of the GEP council.
